Baby Update

Only 5 weeks to go!!! And I'm hoping for 3 :) We had a 3d ultrasound today, and Miss E. Buhstasia Pop was not very cooperative (that's the name O gave her...we are going with the first name, but we'll probably choose a different middle name :) We didn't get any good pics of her (her face was pressed into my uterine wall the WHOLE time), but we did find out that she probably weighs about 5 pounds, and it appears that she has lots of hair. It will be very surprising if she really has hair since Elliott, O, and I were all bald babies!

We are slowly getting things ready for EBP. My mom and I spent hours and hours and hours turning our junk room into a livable space for EBP. However, we still have lots to do. My mom has finished fixing the elastic on all of our cloth diapers, and now we just need to strip them. I bought a swing off Craigslist that I am very happy with. I'm planning on ordering the car seat tomorrow, and hopefully we'll get the bed within the next week or 2. Since we are cosleeping, we are putting a double mattress on the floor of EBP's room instead of using a crib (we had a crib with O and only used it once!). I still need to make the mobile for her room and decide on the wall decorations and make them. Elliott has to put together and paint a shelf that I bought from IKEA. We don't have a place to change diapers, so I hope that EC goes really well :) I'll post pics of her room once it's finally finished...hopefully within the next 2 weeks!

  1. How much did O weigh? My OB thought my son wasn't growing during the last few weeks of my pregnancy. I had an ultrasound to make sure everything was alright, and they said he weighed less than 5 lbs. They induced me a few days later and he weighed 7 lbs 3 oz!

  2. How wonderful - you can see the finish line!!!
So happy for all of you. What a blessing.

  3. O weighed 8 pounds, 13 ounces! She was a big baby :) I know that ultrasounds aren't always accurate, but it's fun to have an idea of how big she is. My midwife said that will NOT induce...it's not an option since I'm having a VBAC (hopefully), and they aren't fond of inductions anyway :)

  4. wow, that seems to have gone really quick, I'm sure you were only announcing your pregnancy a couple of months ago!
About changing diapers, we never had a place, i had a waterproof mat that I would roll out where ever we were, at home or elsewhere. My mom never used a diaper table with the 3 of us and actually changes diapers with the kiddy lying on her lap - I never mastered that one!

  5. I am so happy for you! This is such an exciting time. I am sure you will get everything ready and it will work out. The labor of my second baby was so much easier and I was way more relaxed. We knew what to expect. Both my girls were small, both were 5.13 lbs and born at 37 wks.

  6. I am up to my 3 VBAC.. I am 38 weeks.. I am sure you will be fine :) I had emergency ceasar with my first daughter.

being my fourth, I also dont have a change table (though I use diapers, and know very little about EC... looking forward to you telling us about it all) I just figure you change them wherever you are anyways... maybe it is laziness.. will see if I end up needing a new change table, as the old one died :)

  7. You are so close! Good luck with your VBAC, I am so proud of you for researching this decision with your midwife :) I'll be sending you peaceful labor vibes for sure!

I had a crib with both my kids, but it was used for toy storage mainly with Jaina. I liked having that part of the nursery get-up but boy did I love sleeping with her even more. My son was a very reluctant co-sleeper (he has autism and as a baby did not like to be in close contact with people), but we now co-sleep periodically at age 4. I'm making up for lost time!

  8. Wishing you a safe and quick delivery and a happy babymoon!

Also, I just wanted to let you know I linked to you like crazy in my post on keeping toddlers occupied in the car - especially your activity bag posts. Thanks for so much inspiration!

  9. This might be too personal (and if it is, feel free to ignore it), but I was just wondering if you were having a home birth?! I had a HBAC and I noticed that you've mentioned having a midwife several times, so it just made me wonder :)

Either way, sending lots of VBAC vibes your way!

  10. Annabella- I love the idea of a homebirth, but I know I could never get Elliott to agree. O's birth was very traumatic...I had to be put under general anethesia for an emergency c-section when her heartbeat repeatedly dropped to the 40s, and my midwife said she wouldn't have survived a natural birth (her cord was wrapped tightly around her neck twice). So, after that experience I think we would all be too nervous about a homebirth. Also, I love my midwife, and she doesn't do homebirths :)

  11. Yay for having the finish line is sight. It seems like just last month you announced.

As for cosleeping, does O sleep in her own bed already or will she be part of the family bed?

We have a crib and never used it when Froggy was little but use it regularly now that it is sidecarred up to our bed. It gives us a safe space to place her in before we come to bed and she can just roll over and join us when we get in.
