How to Applique...A Tutorial

1) Trace your pattern on the applique paper. I use Steam a Seam 2 and LOVE it!

2) Peel off the backing and place the pattern on your fabric. Press firmly so it will stick to the fabric.

3) Cut the pattern out of the fabric.

4) Peel the paper off the back of the pattern and place it on your t-shirt.

5) Iron the pattern for 10 to 15 seconds twice or follow the directions that come with your applique paper.

6) You're finished! Show your child her new shirt and enjoy her excited reaction!

  2. I have to admit that I felt a little silly doing a tutorial since it's so easy :) I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I'm a little addicted to appliqueing right now. I'm constantly on the search for inexpensive t-shirts :)

  10. I'm SO glad you posted this! I needed the step by step directions. I may even try to sew a finishing zig zag stick around the outside. I think initial onsies are such a cute baby gift!

  14. Now that it has been awhile I can ask. Do they last? Does the edge stay nice without finishing it in some manner?

  15. The ones that we wash inside out and on delicate look fine. Unfortunately, we washed the butterfly shirt with our clothes and didn't turn it inside out, so it frayed a little :(

  16. Of course, it will last much longer if you sew the edges. It's just SO much easier and faster to not sew the edges :)
