Our youngest is a leftie and he didn't get a handle on cutting until he was around 5. O's scissors are fiskars. They have a soft handle, are metal, and have a blunt tip. Also, she has cut a hole in her pjs, but she was sad about it, so I hope she won't do it again :)

O is not holding the scissors the right way in the photo. She's a bit stubborn about holding them her way :)Melissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08382299215040850847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7536964614643414021.post-29743954923811555322009-01-20T00:32:00.000-05:002009-01-20T00:32:00.000-05:00And if I can recommend... have them cut with their...And if I can recommend... have them cut with their "thumb up." If you have trouble open/closing or cutting - your child will hate them and learn nothing.
2. If there is any gap or "play" between the blades, they will not cut. Some have a screw that can be tightened or loosened.
3. Avoid plastic - find a good pair of metal ones with a soft grip rubber handle in a favorite color.
4. BLUNT tip can still hurt.
5. Don't put anything on your child that you are going to miss when they cut a little (or big) hole it it.
6. Make sure they hold the scissors correctly from day 1. You will have to place their fingers on the scissors many times before they get it - just like writing with a pencil. This does not mean you have to hold it nonstop, just when they begin to get frustrated because they are holding them funny, replace in their hands correctly.

I just looked at the ones in my house - they are all FISKARS.Rachelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06439004289995209998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7536964614643414021.post-47860105354607766622009-01-19T15:54:00.000-05:002009-01-19T15:54:00.000-05:00this is such a good idea.
