Glow in the Dark Ornaments
The girls and I always decorate clear glass ornaments by squeezing paint in them and swirling it around. This year we put a little twist on that activity by using glow in the dark paint. The girls and I were excited to run to the very dark bathroom to see if the ornaments glowed after we made them...they did! So, there's another simple, fun, and quick activity for you!

Weaving Pot Holders
O(5) has REALLY enjoyed weaving pot holders lately! She likes to dress in her "old time" clothes and kerchief while she works.

She's very proud of her finished creations!

E(2) also loves to weave! (of course!) I love her abstract weaving creations!

Pop Paper Prints
The girls and I made pop paper prints during "P" week a few weeks ago. They weren't interested in this activity at first (it was at the end of a long day), but once they saw me painting and having fun, they joined in.
First, we painted a piece of pop paper. Then we pressed a piece of white cardstock on the painted pop paper.

Here are the finished prints.

Painting Like Jackson Pollock
O(5) studied Jackson Pollock at school during the month of October. For the end of the month art activity, the kids painted like "Action Jackson!"

We put 1 canvas on each piece of paper and gave each child an egg carton filled with paint. They flung the paint onto the canvases using popsicle sticks and paintbrushes. They loved this activity!
When O(5)and I got home from school, we showed E(2) how to paint like "Action Jackson." We started with a little lesson on color mixing. (I love this perfect paint pallette that I found at the thrift store).

E didn't really like flinging the paint onto her canvas. She preferred to rub it in with her hands! Fun times!

Puffy Paint
Making puffy paint with the girls has been on my to-do list for years (probably at least 3!). I was inspired by Pinterest and "P" week to go ahead and do it!
E(2) and I made the paint one morning while O(5) was at school. We mixed together 1 cup of white flour, 1 cup of salt, and 1 cup of water. We stirred the ingredients and then divided the mixture and added paint.

After stirring the paint to mix it really well, I put it into squeeze bottles.

The girls had fun painting after O got home from school. O said she was doing an "Action Jackson" (Jackson Pollock) style painting.

Puffy painting eventually turned into finger (hand) painting!

I also learned a valuable lesson...always check the weather before leaving paintings outside on the porch to dry overnight. They got soak and several blew away :(
(I'm not linking to one particular blog, since I've seen this recipe on countless websites and blogs and in several craft books)

"P" Collage
E(2) and I had so much fun making a collage with "P" items...pom poms, pipe cleaners, and paper!

I taped a piece of contact paper (sticky side out) onto one of our sliding glass doors. I gave E a basket full of goodies, and we got to work.

We've done many, many contact paper collages, but evidently they were too long ago, because this seemed like a new experience for E. She loved exploring the stickiness of the contact paper, and then testing out the glass to see if things would stick to it as well.

Coloring Mandalas
O(5) and I have really enjoyed coloring mandalas during our "Mama and O Craft Time" lately. It is calming to color a repeating geometric pattern, and it's fun! We use fine tip markers and have great conversations while we color.

O's Halloween Puppets
O(5) and I have really enjoyed having "O and Mama Craft Time" after E(2) goes to sleep at night. We usually spend about 30 to 45 minutes crafting and reading. One our first projects was sewing Halloween puppets from a Family Fun craft kit (that I bought after Halloween last year from WM). O loves to sew, and this was lots of fun for both of us.

We made one puppet per night for 3 nights of "Mama and O Craft Time." After she finished the puppets, she decided to draw pictures of them in her drawing journal.
I spelled the words for her for the ghost and witch drawings.

I had to bite my tongue to not correct her when she was writing the "E" in Wendy. I'm so glad that I didn't correct her...I love the 6 lines on the E!

I encouraged her to sound out the words herself when she was writing "Scott the Skeleton." I love how she wrote it! What a treasure these imperfections will be once she is reading and writing with ease!
