I don't want to go home!

We've had such a great week on vacation, and I really don't want to go home! We have been vacationing at the lake in a free condo that one of Elliott's friends let us use. At first it seemed a little strange for us to go on vacation to the lake since we live on this same lake (on the other side in a smaller lake), but it really has been wonderful. We are only 30 minutes from home and 30 minutes from my hometown, so it was convenient for our family and friends to visit us.
We've enjoyed exploring little beaches along the lake. Elliott and O explored while Little Kicker and I relaxed in the boat :) We also had several picnics on the beaches which was lots of fun.

We watched Elliott jump off cliffs and swing from rope swings. O was very impressed and said she wanted to jump with dada. Ummm, no!

We took several walks on an abandoned bridge that is just for pedestrians now. O loved racing on the bridge with dada. We also took a walk with her in her wagon one morning, and that was lots of fun :)

O and my niece, M, had fun excavating treasures from the ice. I brought a Mickey Mouse cake pan and filled it with Cinderella figurines and water that we then froze. The girls had a great time, and this kept them busy for quite a while. We refroze everything, and they had fun with it again a few days later. This activity is quite a hit!

O had fun trying out her new rod and reel that her Grandpa gave her for her birthday.

We grew another growing animal...an alligator this time. I thought an alligator would be appropriate since we are vacationing in an area where there are alligators. Although, we were surprised that we didn't see any. O has gotten much better at driving the boat...at idle speed. I am amazed by how well she knows her left and right (better than me!), and she confidently follows directions and drives very well with Elliott sitting across from her instead of right beside her.

Fun with Household Items

O had a great time playing with this extra storage container turnstile at Guh-guh and Grandpa's house last week! She put the 7 dwarves and princesses in it and said it was a carousel. It's fun to watch a child's imagination at work!

3 Years Old!!!

My baby girl turned 3 years old today! I can't believe how quickly the last 3 years have passed, but I can't really remember life before O :) She's the joy of my life and I treasure every moment I spend with her. I'm so glad that I started this blog and our private family blog to record all of our special moments together. It's such a treasure to look back and show her all of the things we've done and the fun we've had.
O was very excited about her #3 shirt that I made using a freezer paper stencil. We had a very busy, fun, and wonderful day today. Our day started with breakfast in bed for the birthday girls (my mom and O share a birthday). They had cinnamon rolls (O's favorite), watermelon, cantalope, blueberries, and organic milk. After breakfast we took the boat across the lake to a small waterpark where we played for about 3 hours. O said she had FUN! She was very brave and swam by herself with her froggie vest on (usually she won't let us let go of her). After playing in the water for about 3 hours, we went out for a late lunch at a Mexican restaurant where O had her first taste of flan. She loved it, of course :) We decided to watch a movie since we were having an afternoon thunderstorm, and we enjoyed watching Shark Tales. We ended our day of fun by having Guh-guh's favorite cake...angelfood cake topped with whipped cream and blueberries. What a wonderful day for our 2 birthday girls!

O's 3rd Birthday Party

O's 3rd birthday party was on Saturday, and we had a GREAT time!

We had a bubble table that was quite a hit!

On Friday night, O told me to make sure to write "Happy Birthday" on her giant chalkboard.

The kids each filled a bag with treats of their choice. O asked if she could fill a treat bag, too, because she really wanted glitter glue and a fruit strip.

I don't normally buy individually wrapped snacks, but I made an exception for O's party :)

My sister put a towel under the sweet pea teepee for the kiddos. O sat under the teepee with her friends to open her gifts.

The highlight of the party was this incredible inflatable water slide that O's Grandaddy Harry bought for her! She's still a little intimidated by the large slides, but she likes the smaller, tunnel slide, and the bigger kids had a blast! (Elliott was deflating the slide when I took the picture).

It was a wonderful party, and we are so thankful for everyone for helping us prepare and for attending :) After the party, we rested and cooled off before taking the boat out in the lake for a while. Then we packed up and left for vacation. I don't recommend leaving for vacation on the same day as a party...it's quite stressful, and I forgot to pack SO many things! Blog posts may be scarce this week since we are busy relaxing, and the internet connection is spotty.

Disabling the Right Click Function

Several of you asked how to disable the right click function in the comments section, so I decided to just post how to do it rather than respond in the comments section. Thanks to My Boys Teacher for the link!!!

People can still steal your pics and content, it just makes it a little more difficult. Here's the link: right click disable

This is very fast and easy to do!

You've probably figured out...

that I've decided not to delete this blog. I enjoy writing the blog, and it seems that you enjoy reading it, so it just didn't make sense to let one person's bad choices ruin all of that. I've disabled the right click option, which doesn't prevent people from stealing my images and content, but it does make it more difficult. I'm also being more careful about not showing my girl in the pics. Thanks to all of you for your support and kind comments!

I have lots of posts saved in draft, so the posts will keep coming for a while. However, I have a feeling things will slow down a bit as my pregnancy progresses :) My hands and feet are SO swollen, and breathing is not easy :) Only 8 more weeks...

Fun at the Beach

We had such a wonderful time at the beach last week! Here are a few highlights...

Beach sand foot massages

Watching "Grasshopper" the Stingray grow. He's our most realistic looking growing animal, and several people thought he was a real animal that we'd caught in the ocean.

A mama and O shadow shot

A short game of memory using the beach shell memory game that I made last summer.

Happy 4th of July!

We had a very busy and fun 4th of July, and this cake was one of the highlights!!! Guh-guh made an angel food cake, and the girls (O and my niece) helped her decorate it using cool whip, blueberries, and strawberries. The girls and Guh-guh had fun decorating the cake, and it tasted delicious!!! We hope that making (and eating!) this cake will be a new 4th of July tradition!

Glad to Be Home

O and I are glad to be home after a very busy week at Guh-guh and Grandpa's house. O LOVED going to Bible School each night, and we both enjoyed visiting with our family. My mom and I accomplished many craft projects that were on my "to do before baby" list :) There will be a lot of upcoming craft posts!
Our first priority after we got home was spending the morning on the beach. It was relaxing and fun, and O enjoyed making hand and footprints on the retaining wall :) We have one more day at home, and then we're off again!

A Lot to Think About...

I'm not sure what's going to happen with this blog. I don't want to delete the blog...I enjoy sharing ideas with other mamas, and I just really like documenting our activities. This is the best time of my life, and I don't want to forget a thing. However, the thought of pictures of my child being on websites without my knowledge makes me feel sick. If this childcare owner was willing to steal images to use as her own, then what would stop some pervert from stealing pics from my site. I always thought that since there are so many, many blogs out there that no one would ever bother stealing my pics. Now I know that way of thinking was flawed. I have about 10 posts saved in draft, so I'll go ahead and post them over the next few days, and we'll just see where we go from there. Right now I think we'll try to watermark photos and be more careful about keeping O's face off the blog, but I'm not sure yet what our final decision will be. I just know that I'm really looking forward to having several internet free days at the beach next week!

Thanks for all of your comments and support, and please be aware that if people are stealing my pics then they may be stealing yours, too! It's just a coincidence that a loyal and kind reader recognized that the pics were stolen from my site and then notified me. Without her, I would have NEVER known. Thanks again, Elizabeth!

UPDATE: The owner of the childcare website has emailed an apology to us, and I can't ask for more than that :) She has asked that her personal info be deleted from the comments section, so I will honor this request. Thanks to all of you for your support :)

I am very upset...

A reader recently alerted me to the fact that images from my blog had been stolen and were appearing on a childcare website. It appears that the woman running the daycare is using stolen images to advertise her daycare and make it appear that these activities and pictures were taken at her daycare. I am shocked and wondering if I even want to continue to have a public blog. I am very glad that I have made an effort to keep O's name and face off of this blog, and I advise other mommy bloggers to do the same since you never know who is stealing your images and how they are using them. Here is the link to the site where the stolen images appear. You may want to check it out since you may find some of your own images on this site. Thanks to Elizabeth for alerting me to the stolen images!

Update: I put this in the comments section, but thought I should add it to the original post...Thanks for the support everyone! I just feel very betrayed since I do this blog to share ideas and build relationships with other moms. I never thought anyone would steal my images and pass them off as her own. Putting a watermark on my pics is a great idea, and I'll definitely look into that. I don't want to stop doing this blog...I really enjoy it (most of the time!), and I already have about 10 posts saved in draft :) It makes me feel sick that my kiddo could be out there in cyberspace in places that I don't even know about. I need to be even more careful about not showing her face. I often show side shots, but I'll have to do better than that and maybe just show her hands. I definitely need to put a note on my blog about not using my images...I've seen that on other blogs. Uggg. What a hassle! I guess I was just really caught off guard by this. Thanks again for your comments!

Also, Elliott has emailed the owner of the daycare to let her know that we will be contacting our lawyer if the images are not removed. Maybe this was an innocent mistake on her part...maybe she didn't know that it's illegal to steal other people's images, and she really does do all of these activities in her daycare and her clients know that the images are not her own. I'll never know, but I'd like to believe that. However, I am just really bothered by my child being on someone's website without my knowledge. I don't think I would be as upset if she had not used a picture of O on her website. It makes me wonder if my child is out there on other sites...this is definitely something every mommy blogger should consider.

UPDATE: The owner of the childcare website has emailed an apology to us, and I can't ask for more than that :) She has asked that her personal info be deleted from the comments section, so I will honor this request. Thanks to all of you for your support :)

Father's Day Interview

After O and I did the Mother's Day Interview, Elliott wanted me to do an interview with her about him. I told him he had to wait until Father's Day :) So here it is:

I really love it when my dada loves to write with me.

My dada likes to sing with me.

My dada always tells me, "to set my tinies out"

The best thing he does is write.

It makes him happy when he hugs me.

My dada loves me.

I like it when he plays cartoons with me.

The best thing he does is play with me.

When my dada loves to fish with me and he loves, loves me.

My dada’s favorite household chore is play car.

My dada’s favorite TV show is Obama.

If he could go on a trip, he would go to St.M.

I love my dada because he hugs me!

Nostalgia

My sister and I loved our Holly Hobbie nightgowns so much when we were little that our mom bought an extra nightgown for each of us. She put them away in the closet to give to us at a later date. She didn't realize at the time that it would be about 28 years before she thought about the nightgowns again! Thank goodness we both have little girls who also love the nightgowns! O was thrilled with her very old "new" nightgown!

Little Cooker

Guh-guh told O they could cook anything she wanted for lunch on Tuesday, and she chose to cook macaronni and cheese. I was shocked since we haven't even eaten macaronni and cheese since Thanksgiving. Although, maybe that's why she chose it...

Marrying Girl

O loves to pretend to get married! She wears her flower girl dress, which she calls her "marrying dress." We are all about pretend play in this house!

Answering Questions

My Circle Time post generated a lot of questions, and a reader suggested that I answer the questions in a post...good idea! I have a feeling that my answers may be a little disappointing... I'm starting with the easy ones first :)

1) I was just wondering if anyone else joins you for story time.

It's just O and I for circle time, so it's not an actual circle :) Sometimes Gracie (our cat) will sit with us for a while and sometimes a baby doll or 2 will participate, but it works out well to just have the 2 of us. Little Kicker will help make our circle complete in August :)

2)Where do you get these songs from?

The vast majority of the songs we used for circle time come from cds that I've borrowed from the library. They are simple songs that are sung to the tune of songs such as London Bridge is Falling Down, etc. I also have a book of Spanish songs that are sung to familiar tunes. For example, we sing "Hola means hello" to the tune of London Bridge, and we sing "Uno, dos, tres, amigos, cuatro, cinco, seis, amigos, siete, ocho, nueve, amigos, diez amigos son" to the tune of 10 Little Indians.

3) How do you plan to continue homeschool with O when Little Kicker arrives?

I have no idea! I am planning on doing a lot with O this summer so that we can take a few weeks or a month off from any planned activities without me feeling guilty about it :) I'm hoping that Little Kicker will love the wrap that my mom recently made for us (like a Moby wrap), and that she spend a lot of time in it while O and I do our homeschooling activities. We'll see...

4) What Spanish lessons do you use?

Boca Beth sent us a dvd, cd, coloring book, and puppets, and we use all of these (excluding the dvd) during circle time. (I'm planning on writing a review of Boca Beth's products after we've used them for a while). We also use Teach Them Spanish. I have several children's books that are bilingual and a few that are just in Spanish, and she chooses one to read each morning. I have several sets of spanish flash cards that my sister bought us from Sam's Club last year. Lastly, a friend recently sent me Flip Flop Spanish, so we'll try this out, too. I'm especially excited about the calendar component of Flip Flop Spanish as I think she's a little too young for the workbook right now.

5) I wanted to find out when/how you do your planning/prep for your days. Do you plan out your week or prep the night before?

This is a tough one because I just really don't have a good answer. I write LOTS of list of things that I want to do. Often, I forget to ever look at my lists, but they do help when I remember. For circle time, I have a bin full of circle time activites on our hearth (which is where we do circle time). I just grab activities from the bin as we go, so there is very little planning involved. I let O have some choice in our activites, although we always do Spanish.

I star LOTS of activities from other blogs on my google reader (I have more than 700 starred items!), and I've recently started going back and making lists from the starred items. I'm hoping that will help me organize my thoughts...

I plan to print blank calendars for June, July, and August and write in a mommy directed art activity, a science project, and a book with story stretchers on the calendar for each week. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow...

Most of the story stretcher ideas and science project ideas will come from library books that I checked out and took notes on. I've made lists of the activities...now I just need to find the lists :)

So... you can tell that I'm not that organized. I strive for organization, but I'm not there yet. I'm not sure if I really answered the question. I guess I really just decide what we are going to do about 10 minutes or so before we actually do it :) Although, I like the idea of planning the week ahead, so maybe I'll try that...

There were also lots of questions on the embroidered t-shirts posts, so I'll answer those questions here, too.

1) Where did you learn how to do it (embroidery)?

I bought a Klutz book on embroidery about 6 years ago to teach myself. It's is super easy to do! I am a pretty lazy embroiderer (is that a word?), so I typically only do the back stitch. Here is a tutorial that is better than any I could ever do :)

2)I'm curious about the EC process. Is O completely potty-trained, if so, how long did it take using the EC process?
O wears diapers at night, so she's not completely potty-trained. She wore panties for a few weeks, but then she decided she'd rather wear diapers. I'm letting her choose because I want her to do what makes her comfortable.

We started EC when O was 10 months old. Although, I'd never heard of EC and had no idea that such a thing even existed. We were just doing what came naturally to us. My sister started putting her daughter on the potty at about 10 or 11 months, so we decided to give it a try, too. O pooped the first time she ever sat on a potty. She just instinctively knew what to do. After that I probably only changed 3 or 4 poopy diapers. It was easy to read her signals, and she quickly learned to sign potty while saying an approximation of "potty." After I learned about EC, I briefly read about it on the internet, but did no research because we decided to just do what worked for us. We kept O in cloth diapers until she was about 15 or 16 months old. Then she started wearing panties, which made EC much easier. She had a couple of potties around the room, and she would crawl or toddle to them when she needed to go. She continued to wear cloth diapers when we were out and about, but she mostly wore panties at home from then on. She has been completely day time potty trained since she was about 19 months old, I think. Although, we did still put a diaper on her when she was in the car seat just in case we couldn't stop in time (until after she was 2). It's no fun to clean a car seat!

3) Did it take long for O to get the concept of using the potty at 10 months?
She immediately understood that she should poop in the potty. It took a little longer for her to start peeing in the potty.

I recently read Diaper Free Baby, and it convinced me to try EC from the beginning. It's a great book that makes SO much sense :) I highly recommend it if you are considering doing EC.

Hooray!!!

Today was my last day of work until after Little Kicker is born!!! It was a LONG day...we left our house at 6:20 am and just got home at 11 pm, but it was a good day. I love my job, but I'm glad to be done with it for a while :) I typically work one day per week, but for the past 6 weeks I've been working 2 days per week (since things are crazy in the public school system, especially special ed, at this time of year). I was surprised and dismayed by how totally wiped out I've been by working 2 days in a row. When I was pregnant with O, I was working 1 full time job and one part time job (about 60 hours per week) and commuting 2 hours a day. I was tired and sick all of the time, but I survived it. This time I had to spend a day recovering just from working 2 days :( I actually felt so bad on Saturday that I thought I was getting the flu. I'm sure that the fact that I'm still taking Unisom to control the nausea plays a big part in my overwhelming exhaustion. Hopefully, I can stop taking it soon.

I have LOTS of plans for a fun summer with my girl (and her daddy, of course!)...weekly science projects, weekly art projects, lots of circle time activities, weekly books with story stretcher activities, a few new Montessori activities, playing on the beach daily (weather permitting i.e. if I can stand the heat), daily gardening experiences, playing in her sweet pea teepee, building our sunflower house (once the sunflowers are tall enough), 3 weeks of FREE vacations, etc. So...stay tuned!

Overheard...

O and my 5 year old niece were coloring in a big coloring book on the floor. M was coloring a picture, and O was coloring on the back, blank side of a coloring sheet. I overheard M tell O proudly "I'm coloring in the lines, and you are just doing scribble scrabble." Just as I was about to assure O that her "scribble scrabble" was beautiful, she confidently said "Scribble scrabble is good for my brain!" Good girl!

Learning about Car Engines

Elliott is determined that O is going to like and know all about cars and their engines. Luckily, she LOVES to help him check and change various car engine parts. She identified several parts to me, but I had no idea what she was talking about :)

Fun with Sidewalk Chalk!

Oh, you mean you aren't supposed to let your kids lie in the road while coloring with sidewalk chalk???

Just kidding :) We were at an outdoor concert, and the road was closed to cars. O was happily drawing on the road, and I was quite surprised when I looked down to see her lying on the road with her chin in her artwork. Obviously, my girl was worn out!
