Just in case anyone is interested...on this shelf we have O's lentil tray, her broom and dustpan (mainly used to sweep lentils), and her window washing kit. This shelf is right next to a sliding glass door that she enjoys cleaning often. All of the shelves in these recent posts are in the kitchen.

ReplyDeleteThanks! Our home is definitely child centered :) Sometimes I look around and wonder if any adults even live here :) That's ok because I love having O's stuff everywhere, and I think Elliott and I enjoy playing with her toys almost as much as she does!

ReplyDeleteShannon- Thanks! It's all in the kitchen to use anytime. She hasn't actually been interested in the lentil try lately, so I may either put it in the toy rotation or put different beans in it to make it more interesting again :)

ReplyDeleteI'm hoping you can give me some advice. Zhana enjoys her Montessori activities but at this point I can't just leave them out. The lentils would spend most of their time strung out on the floor. O seems to leave stuff alone. Any ideas of how to get to her to put things back. My daughter is extremely "high spirited" and it is hard to get her to do things she doesn't want to do. I think I asked something like this to you before. This time, I'll subscribe to follow up comments...Zhana is 27 months old.
ReplyDeleteProfessional Mommy- We've always had the rule that she has to clean up one thing before she gets out another, and this seems to work pretty well. Of course, we aren't incredibly strict with it, but for the most part she doesn't fuss when I remind her that she has to clean up the lentils before she gets out the playdoh, etc. She ALWAYS makes a mess with the lentils, and since she hasn't mastered sweeping we help her sweep them up. It's not that big of a deal because they are all right there together and not spread all over the house. At times I have had to do hand over hand to get her to clean things up, but that is rare now. She knows that if I tell her to clean up she's going to have to do it no matter what, so she might as well just do it :) Lately, she just says "O not want to," and I remind her that she has to listen to mommy, etc. Good luck!

Thank you. Ms. High Spirited ignores me about picking up. This is one of our major disagreements. The other day, rather than clean up she went and put all of her toys in the trash if that tells you anything. All the while smiling and raising her eyebrows. Oh, poor thing has so much of me in her...I'll keep trying though!

ReplyDeletemichie- The tray came from Wal-mart, but I've seen them much cheaper at Hobby Lobby in the unfinished wood section.
