Disabling the Right Click Function

Several of you asked how to disable the right click function in the comments section, so I decided to just post how to do it rather than respond in the comments section. Thanks to My Boys Teacher for the link!!!

People can still steal your pics and content, it just makes it a little more difficult. Here's the link: right click disable

This is very fast and easy to do!

  1. I am glad you are staying online with your blog. I love your ideas and dedication to teaching your child. Where are you hosting your pics? I love to have big pics, but the problem is they link to the photo storage site, so the right click thing doesn't seem to work! Thank you.

  3. Thanks for the disabling instructions...I did it & it did disable the ability to right-click images, but when the image is enlarged by double-clicking, the HTML didn't disable people from right-clicking at that point. :(

It's sad we have to worry about this sort of thing, isn't it?

  4. You might want to consider water marking your pictures since they're still easily copied from your blog.

  5. I plan on watermarking my pics, but I just haven't taken the time to figure out how to do it yet :)

I host my pics at dropshots.com.

  6. thanks Melissia.
I have put it in but can't check it because I have a Mac, I am just hoping it will work! I also decided I will watermark my pictures from now on - I do it in Photoshop.

  7. Mom, M.Ed. (Jessica),

Here is a link to instructions for disabling LEFT click:

    http://www.designsbyrs.com/2009/01/14/blogspot-101-keep-your-photos-from-opening-when-people-left-click-on-them/

I didn't have to do it on my blog for some reason, Left click isn't opening them anymore. I wonder if Blogger changed something.

  8. Hi Melissa :) Hope you're feeling well today.

I just discovered that I'm able to drag images from your (latest) posts off when your rss feeds come into my email program... it just occurred to me to check. So, anyone subscribing to your blog can probably do the same :(

I use iphoto for my images & there doesn't seem to be a watermark option but I'm going to see if I can work something out because it does seem like the best option - a shame though, hey?!

  9. I actually find the disabled right-click kind of annoying, because it doesn't just disable on pictures but on everything.

If there's an interesting link I'd like to follow, I usually right-click to select "open in a new tab" -- so I can keep on reading your blog and also check on the link.

With the right-click disabled, I either have to completely finish reading your blog, then go back and remember and find the link I wanted to follow, or else click through right away and then remember to 'go back' later to finish reading your blog.

You might say it's a minor inconvenience, but in one sense it is forcing visitors to click away from your site rather than remain (while opening external links in the background). It's also just annoying when I'm trying to do three things at once heh... my primary method of web-surfing organization has been taken away from me! ;)

Anyway, I know we're trying to protect our work and that's fine, I'm just pointing out the downside of this particular measure.

  10. Sorry it's annoying for you. I'm not trying to protect my "work." I'm trying to protect my child. Also, I've never used the right click function when I'm reading blogs, and I've never had a problem at all. I click on the link, read it, and click the back button to go back to the blog. Simple and fast :)
