DIY Moon Sand or How to Make a Mess!

After seeing the directions for making Moon Sand on Skip to my Lou, I decided we should try it. We used 9 cups of play sand (from Lowe's), 3 cups of cornstarch, and around 2 and a half to 3 cups of water.
1st O and Ell poured the sand into the container (we were so happy to have Elliott join us with this project!)

Then the cornstarch

Mixing it all together

They added the colored bubble solution to the sand :)

And here is the mess! If you don't like a mess, DON'T make moon sand! By the time she was finished playing, O was covered from head to toe in moon sand. Elliott dipped her in the lake to clean her off :)

  1. In this, too, the make it yourself moon sand is like the real stuff. I see SO many people talk about how moon sand is banned from their house that I have no desire to even try it. Even the real stuff is really messy.

  2. We have the real stuff and I am not a fan. It is so messy. My children are allowed to play with it outside only. I hide it in the garage so that they don't think of it too often. I would much rather have paint, play dough, and cooking messes than moon sand.

  3. I let my kids have open access to washable markers, homemade play-doh, colored pencils, scissors, glue, paint, crayons, paper, but there are two things that I will NEVER allow in my house. 1) Glitter and 2) Moon Sand.

  4. Oh man, I love Moon sand. Both my girls had a ball playing with it at their granny's this weekend...maybe I only like it b/c it wasn't in MY house...but I am super stoked to see these directions!!! Great timing!
