I'm Hooked...

E is looking cozy in the Beco while wearing her new mama knitted hat (knitted on a circle loom). I've made 4 infant hats, 2 child sized hats, 1 adult hat, and 1 scarf. I'm hooked! Next on my list is another scarf (I hope my teenaged nieces appreciate the many, many hours of work that are going in to their Christmas gifts!) and probably a few more hats for my girls. I've gotten quite good at nursing while knitting. It's so nice to knit while watching E's beautiful and peaceful face while she drinks her milkies :)

  1. I always wondered if those worked! Guess they do!! I learned how to crochet and nurse, and became a pro....that along with cooking dinner, homeschooling, breaking up fights. I think my last baby thought it was weird when I just sat there!

  2. Watch out. It gets even more addicting when you discover the number of websites out there with pattern ideas for more than just hats and scarves.

  3. I LOVE my circle loom! My mom and I started making hats to donate to the children's hospital in our area, for the preemies. That's how I got "hooked"! It's just so easy and they turn out so cute!

  4. You got me hooked too!! After I saw your first post, I started reading about the looms and went out and got a set. I have made bunches already too! So fun! I made a hat in the car while heading to the inlaws for Thanksgiving and have had requests for gifts in specific colors for Christmas. I am working on white hats with snowman faces for my little guys! So cute! Thank you for posting about this! I have always wanted to learn to knit.. but am challenged in this area. I did not know the looms existed! I have hooked a friend too! Thanks!

  5. I forgot to say- I did an aplicay (sp.?)of a silly little felt owl with 2 different size button eyes onto a beautiful cream hat for my 20 month old and people stopped us to ask where we got that ADORABLE hat! It was a proud mommy moment! :)

  6. Shannon- I'd LOVE to see your hats! I need ideas to make creative hats since mine are pretty plain and boring. Will you be posting pics on your blog?

  7. Melissa, I don't have a blog- I keep toying with the idea. My camera went out of sync (shutter and flash) this weekend :( but... Santa is bringing us a new SONY DSLR! Hurry Santa! :) So, I don't even have good pics yet. I actually went on etsy and searched "knit hats" for inspiration. That is where I got the basic idea for the owl. My little guy is in love with "owool hat!" I bet you will find some great inspiration there! Thank you for the inspiration to get started with this! Enjoy your weekend!

  8. My daughter, Kendra, started knitting on these looms about 3 years ago (she's almost 15). She got so good, she would knit in the dark after I'd turned off her lights. She has branched out into all sorts of yarnwork now. I think it's amazing. And all of us have at least one home made hat!

  9. My nursling will let me read, but knitting or crocheting interests her too much. She won't stay focused on nursing because she wants to watch!

  10. I just love the looms too! (I actually just posted about them again this week on my blog too. LOL)

I'm currently working on a blanket for my oldest son on the large long loom. It's taking a long time, but I think it's going to be fabulous when it's done.

  11. How on earth do you knit and nurse? I would love to do that but my 6-weeker is mostly requiring 2 arms/hands. I sort of remember (from my first little one) that I could manage more once she was older.... when does that happen? Is the loom easier to juggle than needles? I think I'd end up doing too much poking (of me and baby) with knitting needles!

  12. Yes, it definitely gets easier as they get bigger! E is 3 months old, and if I have the right pillow to prop her on (I use a firm foam bed pillow) knitting and nursing is no problem. I haven't figured out how to knit with needles yet, so I don't know how easy that would be... :)

  13. Milkies!

It takes me two hands to knit, and one hand to nurse so no go there for me. I have partially assembled Ikea furniture while nursing though...
