O LOVES her Melissa and Doug latches board! I've wanted to buy it for a long time, and I finally bought since I had an Amazon gift certificate. I'm glad that I went ahead and got it for her because after only having it one day, she's already pretty good at unlocking all of the doors (except the 2nd one which requires more strength than her little fingers have :) I introduced the board to her yesterday and put it on her school shelf this morning. It was the 1st work that she chose during "school." O asked if she could "play school" this afternoon (and of course I let her), and the only thing she was interested in was this board :)
Hi! I found your blog a while back and actually reference your blog today on my blog. You have great ideas and definitely got me interested in Montessori activities. I'm not sure I completely understand Montessori, but I'm learning. However, you totally inspired me and my daughter Ella is now having "school" like O is a couple of times a week. Thank you for dedicating your blog to this. It definitely has helped me get on the "unschooling" bandwagon and I am enjoying working with my daughter. After my post today I've had several friends email me and I've pointed them in your direction for help! By the way the latch board is alot cuter than mine, but after making my shelves I had left over MDF and mad my own latch board. Ella loves it too, but also struggles with the one your daughter does. :)

I like the lock box MUCH better, but it's more than double the price :) So...for the money I'd say the melissa and doug board is definitely the way to go. Although that lock box is REALLY nice...

ReplyDeleteWe have this board too. Sean cannot open the number two lock either. He loves the rest of it though. It is one of his favorite toys.
ReplyDeleteWe LOVE Melissa & Doug's products. Puzzles are one of my daughter's absolute favorite things to do, always have been since she was about a year old. They have some adorable magnetic paper doll style toys that our daughter loves! I bet O would love them when she gets a little bit older.

ReplyDeleteI was conflicted on this board when I saw it in the store. I'm not sure I want my daughter being able to open some of these types of latches since some of them are used for safety purposes.

Selah- That's a good point! Luckily for us, we don't use any of these type locks in our house. Also, she was almost immediately able to unlock all but one of the doors, so we would have been in trouble, even if she'd never had the board, if we used these types of locks :)
