Cloth Baby Shoes

My mom and I made this pair of shoes for Little Kicker last week while O and I were at her house. It was a bit more complicated than we expected, and it took FOREVER! We both said this would be the first and last pair of shoes we made, but we were so pleased with the end result that I've already picked out the fabric for 2 more pairs of shoes. My mom also thinks we should enlarge the pattern to make a matching pair for O. You can find the pattern and directions here.

  1. I've made shoes like this and LOVE them. If you do enlarge the pattern, don't make the height of the back of the shoe any higher. I made that mistake. The foot gets longer and the instep a little rounder, but the heel-to-ankle is about the same. The next time around should be much funner. :)

Just found you. I have an almost 3 year old and am soaking up Montessori inspiration. Love your blog! Glad that bit with the stolen photo didn't force you to close up shop. :)

  2. I love your blog - thanks for being willing to share all you do. It's very inspirational & practical; it has made a huge impact on what I do with my 2 y.o. on a day to day basis.
I have used a similar pattern (found here: http://family-centered.com/needleworks/soft-baby-shoes/) that seemed a little simpler if you're up for trying something new.

  5. very sweet! nice colours too :)

another cute pattern, but *much* simpler is the Bitty Booties one (hope that link works!), which is more of a 'V-neck' style shoe, and very easily customised :)

  6. nova_j got to you 25 minutes earlier than I could! I was going to give you the link to the Bitty Booties also! I made a pair for a friend and it was super easy, and something that you can easily take with you to sew up by hand while on the train, waiting at the doctor's office, or anywhere else where you might have a few spare minutes.

  7. I love the colors. Your little one will look SO cute! We also use the http://www.family-centered.com/needleworks/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/babyshoetutorial.pdf at On Pins and Needles. I am such a visual learner and she has great step by step pictures.
