Determination and Concentration

E was very focused and determined to get the q-tips into this bear container.  This was not an easy task, but she stuck with it.  I love to watch her when she is so focused on a task!

It is so hard to not jump in and help her, but it is so rewarding for her when she is able to do it by herself.  Her determination, persistence, and ability to concentrate AMAZES me!

  1. Wow- I can`t believe she doesn`t get frustrated with it. My LO would go nuts although I would love to try something similar. I love when she tips the bottle upside down to show it is not going to come out!

I am a new reader to your blog (via montessori goldmine and jojoebi) and LOVE it. I have enjoyed going through your archives and seeing your kids do different activities (so if you have lots of recent activity via Japan- that is me :D) and writing down ideas and saving pages to come back to.

I am not a trained teacher but have a lot of experience with early childhood teaching here in Japan and have recently become more interested in montessori and waldorf styles of education and plan to start working on stuff with my son (although I just had another baby- unfortunately he was born early and is still in hospital currently). We are living with our in-laws now while I am commuting to the hospital but will hopefully be back in our apartment in late February when I can start to set up more planned activities for Noah, my older son (13 months)

Anyway just wanted to say hi, and say I love your blog. Both your girls are amazing!

  2. I followed your lead and gave my daughter some qtips and a container and she loved it. The problem comes when she's done putting all the qtips in. She wants to keep going. Do you take the container away and take the qtips out for your LO, or do you just give her more qtips?
