Cultural Exchange...Jordan!

The girls and I are excited about our cultural exchange package from Jordan!  We have had fun exploring all of the items in the package, reading the letter, and finding Jordan on our Smartglobe.  O(5) especially loves listening to the national anthems of the different countries that we study on the globe.

We had lots of fun practicing saying words in Jordanian Arabic.





In addition to the items pictured, they also sent a small Jordanian flag and a tile with an olive tree.  The girls love both of these things and were playing with them (which is why I don't have a picture of them).  They also included a wonderful, detailed letter.  This was a fantastic cultural exchange package!

Thank you SO much to our new Jordanian friends!  Also, as an extra bonus, they sent a second package because the first one took so long to arrive (we thought it was lost).  It arrived the day before she was going to send the second package, so she decided to go ahead and send both.  I'll give the girls the 2nd package in another week or so.

Harvesting Peaches

The girls were very excited to harvest the peaches from our tree.  O(5) is proudly wearing her bracelet from Jordan!

Glow Station School

The girls and I had fun learning letters, writing our names, and writing words using the glow station and the moveable alphabet.  We put the letters on the glow board and waved the wand over them while saying "bippity boppity boo!"  Then we removed the letters, but they were still there...magic!







I think this will be a fun way for O(5) to practice handwriting, too!  There are so many creative ways to teach when you homeschool, and I'm hoping to make our homeschooling days full of fun!

Our Flag Cake

The girls and my mom had fun making their traditional flag cake for the 4th of July!   This is the 3rd or 4th year that they have made and decorated a flag cake, and it's always a hit.  After they finish decorating the cake, we always sing Happy Birthday to America before eating it.  The kids think this is so much fun.  This year we also threw in a little "Star Spangled Banner" and "America the Beautiful."  Fun times and great memories!

Impromptu Lesson

E(2) said she was building a boat with the pattern blocks, and O(5) said "That might be longer than the baby!"  So we found a yardstick to measure the blocks and found out that they were in fact longer than our new baby friend.  We also measured O and E and talked about the features of a yardstick.  It was a fun impromptu lesson on measurement!

Fossil Cookies

We studied archaeology in our homeschool last week, so I thought it would be fun to make fossil cookies with the girls.  The girls were surprised (we rarely bake cookies) and delighted!

We made super easy peanut butter cookies...we mixed together 1 cup of peanut butter, 1 cup of sugar, and 1 egg.

We rolled the dough into balls and pressed imprint "fossils" into the dough using our playdough stampers.  We baked the cookies for 8 to 10 minutes at 350.




  Fun and simple!
