O's Playdough Shelf

O had started to lose interest in playdough recently, so I revamped her playdough shelf (it's right next to her art shelf). All of the playdough tools and accessories are in the glass jar. The playdough is stored in magnetic glass containers (from IKEA) that hang on a magnetic strip (also from IKEA). She plays with playdough almost everyday, and she plays with putty multiple times per day.

Edit to add:  Homemade playdough does not store well in these containers.  There is some type of chemical reaction that occurs eating a hole in the metal of the container.

trip for knives - then decided that it wasn't a great idea to have knives out on the wall! Great alternative use!

What a great use of those containers. I have used them for collage materials before but never thought to use them for playdough.

So clever,

The playdough shelf is pretty easy to keep organized. We're still working on the art shelf. I'll post about it after I finally take a picture.

I love the containers that you use for storage. I am a Montessori teacher and I made a discovery about playdough last year. I used to put a small container of dough, a rolling pin, putty knife, and one seasonal cookie cutter on the tray. It was popular, but all the children would simply cut out shapes with the cookie cutter. One month, I didn't have a cookie cutter to use and I was AMAZED at the creativity the children used to sculpt and create. One child designed a bird nest and even filled it with tiny eggs. I feel the cookie cutters were actually stifeling their creativity. I would have not made this discovery had it not been on accident!

What a good use for those containers - way better than holding spices!
