A Smart Globe or an Intelliglobe? Opinions PLEASE!

My dad is going to buy the girls a globe for Christmas, and I need to decide whether he should get them a Smart Globe or an Intelliglobe.  I've never seen either of these in real life (there's no where around here that sells them), so I will be buying it from Amazon.  I'd love to hear your opinions on these globes, so I can make this decision soon!  Thanks!

  2. I have the Oregon Scientific Smart Globe and my kids really enjoy it (daughter age 4 and son age 2). The wand is surprisingly sturdy considering that it has been launched occasionally at another object (granted, we have carpet). I have not yet tried to update it, so I can't say anything on that score. (It seemed to be a problem in some Amazon.com reviews.) The battery power of the wand is so-so. I bought rechargeable batteries for it after I got tired of replacing them every few days. (My globe gets a LOT of use.)

My husband and I find our daughter saying things like "I LOVE Libya" or "Let's go visit Indonesia tomorrow" which makes us smile. They mostly just like hearing the folk music associated with each country at this age. I have tried that games and they seem fun and challenging. I like that there is a pull out map of the US as well.

Overall I would say we are 99% satisfied with this globe. I'd definitely buy it again.

  4. We have the smart globe and it's pretty neat. Its very sturdy, has held up to my kids for 3 years now. My only big beef is that it is way loud when turned on until we adjust the volume. No idea how it compares to the other on your list.

  5. Hi Melissa! Great blog, this is actually the first time I'm commenting :) Anyway, I was looking into the smartglobe too as it's the only one I have seen locally (in Belgium). It seems to have 8 different languages http://au.oregonscientific.com/cat-Babies-and-Kids-sub-SmartGlobe-prod-Smart-Globe-3.html . Looks like a great present, although my sprout is only 2,5 so probably too young I guess, even though he has a keen interest in maps.

  6. I was having the same debate...Smart Globe or Intelliglobe? I ended up going with the Intelliglobe, because the Smart Globe's pen is only compatible with PCs, and we are a mac-only family.
