These Christmas playdough gift sets have been in the works since last Christmas. I started gathering my materials on the day after Christmas when I bought LOTS of Christmas cookie cutters (at least 50% off retail price).
During the summer, I found the perfect 4 oz canning jars for storing the playdough.
I found the perfect rolling pins at Hobby Lobby a couple of weeks ago (I planned to make rolling pins from dowels that I was going to cut and sand, but these were inexpensive, and they saved me a lot of trouble!).
Yesterday, I bought Christmas sprinkles and emptied the sprinkles out for later use. I filled the containers with red, green, and yellow yarn to use as icing and beads to use as sprinkles on the playdough cookies. What fun!

We gave out homemade playclay as part of our baskets last year. I think it'd be ok to do it again if we did chocolate, don't you?

Just found plastic cookie cutters at walmart for 1.45 a pack in the baking isle. Then also found those jars on clearence 6 dollars for a pack. I think 12 come in a pack. THanks for all the comments! The playdough usually lasts at least 6 months if you store it in a tightly sealed container. If you scroll down to the post before this one, you'll find links to the playdough recipes that we always use :)
I have used baby food containers for playdough and it works really well.
