Touchy, Feely Books

Several people have asked about the different activities that I do with E (she is 8 months old), so I am going to try to post more baby activities.

Our primary activity with E is reading books aloud to her. Lately, we've been reading more touchy, feely books. She touches the texture, and we talk about whether it is soft, bumpy, etc. O also loves this activity :) In addition to reading aloud to her everyday, we recite nursery rhymes and do fingerplays with her daily. She especially loves "Itsy, Bitsy Spider," and she has even made the sun motion a few times.

  1. Thank you! I am looking forward to baby posts. I love your ideas, and I have a seven month old that I've been looking for activities for.

  2. I love your blog. I have a 7 month old and I sometimes feel like he gets a bit overlooked when meeting the needs of my nearly three year old (who loves to do many of the activities that you have on your blog.) ANy hints on how you manage the needs of two children?

  4. I would love to know when you do your schooling. I have a 1(13months)and a 3 year old and can not do anything with the 3 year old with out the 1 year old getting into it. I try to get out a toy the 1 year old has not played with in a while or get something similiar to what we are doing but she only wants what her sister has. Any suggestions?

  5. We do most of our "school" activities in the mornings after breakfast. E is always right in the middle of just about every activity that O and I do. (she doesn't nap) Sometimes she'll play by us, but usually she is sitting on my lap or nursing. She started crawling yesterday, so I'm not sure what will happen now!

I try to alternate between O activities and baby activities while we are all on the floor together...we'll read our FIAR book and discuss it and then do a few fingerplays and nursery rhymes. We'll do a little Handwriting without Tears and then read a few board books... When we do Montessori work, E sits with us by the Montessori shelf and I give her her treasure basket. When O does her workboxes, I am usually rocking and nursing E. We don't have a set plan...we're just making it through the day the best (and most fun) way that we can!
