Making Butterfly Prints

The idea for this activity came from A Bit of This and That.

To make the butterfly prints, O squeezed paint on the paper, folded it in half, smooshed it, and opened it to see the butterfly. O LOVED this activity! I loved hearing her explain exactly how she did it to Elliott when he got home from work :)

Here is her favorite butterfly.

We used double sided tape to attach it to a toilet paper roll to make a butterfly that could fly around the room :)

  1. O made a great butterfly. We did something similar by applying the paint with a popsicle stick and a spoon to make aliens, but I think my 3-year-old would love squeezing the paint...

  2. I love how bright your paint is even after it dries. What kind of paint (brand and type) is that? The one I have dries very dull.

  3. The tempera paint we have dries dull and chalky, too. The shiny paint that you see in the picture is Apple Barrel Gloss Acrylic Paint. It's my craft paint, but I let her use it occasionally. I don't think it's washable, so we don't use it very often.
